Important Notice Regarding Personal Information and Export-Control Regulations
As part of our commitment to providing a safe and compliant event, we need to share some important information with you regarding the following registration questions.
Baker Industries, a Lincoln Electric company and a participant in this year’s Seminar, operates as a defense contractor. This brings our Baker Industries facilities under the scope of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), overseen by the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), as well as other export-control regulations enforced by the DDTC and the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
To align with these regulations, we must take careful steps to ensure that certain controlled technologies and technical data are securely managed, particularly around foreign nationals. This is a standard practice in the defense industry and is crucial for national and international security.
Why We Need Additional Information
ITAR Compliance: To comply with ITAR and other export-control regulations, we must ensure that controlled technologies and technical data are securely managed. This involves screening attendees, especially non-U.S. Persons, as required by federal law.
What This Means for You
Your Privacy: The additional information we are requesting in this year's registration process, specifically regarding immigration status and nationality, is mandated by the ITAR and federal law and is solely for compliance. It will be kept confidential and not be shared, distributed, or used for any other reason.
Access and Identification at the Seminar
Restricted Access: Please be aware that non-U.S. Persons will have limited access to certain areas of Baker Industries' facilities during the facility tours. Again, this is mandated by the ITAR and federal law and is solely to maintain compliance.
Badge Designation: To assist in compliance, non-U.S. Persons will receive a badge marked "ESCORT REQUIRED." This designation is for internal compliance and safety reasons and does not disclose any personal immigration status details. However, it does signify to staff, security, and other attendees that the wearer is a non-U.S. Person and will need an escort in certain areas.
Ensuring Respect and Privacy: While this badge system is necessary for compliance, we are committed to ensuring that it does not lead to any form of discrimination. The designation is a procedural measure, not a personal one. We firmly believe in and practice non-discrimination and aim to create an inclusive, safe, and compliant environment for everyone attending.
We understand that these measures, while essential for legal compliance, might raise questions or concerns. Please be assured that your privacy, respect, and security are our top priorities. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive, safe, and compliant environment for all attendees.
